About Us
What is the West Sussex Parents Forum?
The West Sussex Parents Forum is a membership organisation for parents and carers in West Sussex. Its is our mission to improve the quality of and access to information and services by giving a voice to, and representing, parents of children and young people in West Sussex who have learning difficulties and disabilities.
The Forum is run by friendly group of parents who share the same vision that every child, regardless of ability matters and that all children will have the same access to and information about the services, opportunities and experiences that are available in West Sussex.
The West Sussex Parents Forum is part of the West Sussex Children’s Trust and we ensure that the concerns and worries of parents and carers with children and young people with disabilities and learning difficulties are heard.
Who is West Sussex Parents Forum for?
Any parent or carer living in West Sussex with who has a child or young person with additional needs can become a member. We strive to ensure that we are making our voice heard and we truly believe that by working together we will make a difference to the futures of all our children.
What does the Forum offer parent members?
Our aims for the coming year are that we will achieve the following:
- Campaigning - we will campaign collectively on behalf of our members and campaign about issues that are raised by Parents Forum members ensuring that the voices of parents and carers in West Sussex are clearly heard.
- Support and Train Parents - we will support and training parents, so that they are able to work with professionals who provide services for disabled children and young people.
- Represent our Members – we will ensure that we are making our voice heard and represent the views of parents and carers to the Children’s Trust and other appropriate bodies within health, education and social care in West Sussex.
- Information to Members – we will provide our members with up to date information about services within health, education and social care affecting families, ensuring that parents and carers have every opportunity to participate in the decision making process.
More details about what we want to do can be found in our Annual Report and Development Plan.
What West Sussex Parent Forum won’t do?
The Forum works best by tackling generic issues that affect a number of people, unfortunately we are unable to tackle specific issues that parents and carers have about their own child, therefore we are not able to offer an individual advisory service.
Our discussion board does however allow our members to talk to other parents in similar situations, so it is a great place to network with others and swap advice, contacts and experiences.
How West Sussex Parents Forum Works?
The Forum is free to join, simply complete our quick on line membership form. On becoming a member you will automatically receive updates on the work of the Forum, together with a copy of our newsletter, which we send our every two months and details of any West Sussex Parents Forum events that might be happening.
Our events happen throughout the year and as well as our Annual General Meeting, they include information events as well as specific meetings relating to projects that we particularly want parents views on.
